Nico Harrison’s future with the Dallas Mavericks is uncertain, as ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reports the team has yet to discuss a contract extension with the general manager, who has two years left on his deal.
Tensions boiled over during Dallas’ 117–107 loss to the Washington Wizards, when fans at the American Airlines Center chanted “Fire Nico!” – a refrain that first surfaced last season after the controversial trade sending Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Mavericks’ offseason lottery win and the selection of Cooper Flagg in June briefly reignited optimism, but two straight home losses have reignited frustration.
Head coach Jason Kidd, who recently signed a multiyear extension, urged patience.
“I think they have a right to vent, but there’s a patience [needed],” Kidd said. “It’s a different team … We all want to win, but fans have a right to express themselves.”
Flagg said he didn’t hear the chants, explaining he was “locked in on the game.”
In April, MacMahon also reported that team governor Patrick Dumont wanted to add an experienced basketball executive to work alongside Harrison – signaling potential front-office changes if the team continues to struggle.
