Seattle Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto has never shied away from making any deal that he feels will improve the roster. 

As such, the Mariners could be involved in several deals ahead of the Aug. 3 trade deadline. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that pitcher George Kirby is drawing interest from multiple teams. He further noted that pitchers Emerson Hancock and Luis Castillo have drawn interest as well.

While Adam Jude and Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reported that it is "unlikely" that the Mariners trade Kirby, they did note that the Mariners will consider anything to improve the roster. 

To that end, Divish and Jude speculate that the impending free-agent outfielder Randy Arozarena could be available.

Seattle Mariners in interesting spot ahead of trade deadline

Trade rumors have surrounded the Mariners' rotation for some time, with speculation that they could move a starting pitcher to bolster the lineup. While that has not been the case thus far, the Mariners have reportedly been willing to trade Castillo.

The time to maximize Castillo's value may have passed. He is in the midst of his worst major league season, posting a 5.06 ERA and a 1.395 WHIP over his 99.2 innings entering Saturday, striking out 86 batters with 32 walks. However, a team could regard Castillo as a buy-low candidate based on his track record while holding at least one year of team control for 2027.

Kirby and Hancock may have a higher price tag. Kirby has posted a 3.98 ERA and a 1.300 WHIP over his 120 innings, striking out 107 batters with 25 walks. Hancock, meanwhile, is in the midst of his best major league season, having posted a 3.26 ERA and a 1.042 WHIP in his 110.1 innings, striking out 102 batters with 27 walks.

Trading Arozarena would likewise be a surprise given the Mariners' offensive struggles. He has been a solid all-around option in the lineup, producing a .280/.375/.447 batting line with 13 homers and 22 doubles in his 440 plate appearances while stealing 20 bases. If he is not traded, Arozarena is a prime candidate to receive the Qualifying Offer ahead of free agency.

A 6-14 stretch since July 5 has pushed the Mariners outside of the playoff picture, making their series against the Twins all the more important. Should the Mariners continue to lose in the next two days, major changes could be coming as they look to retool for the 2027 season.
