Manchester United have now submitted a formal enquiry regarding a deal for AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara.

Despite bringing in Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa already this summer, Man United remain in the market for a new midfielder, and Camara has received major plaudits for his work-rate from Ben Mattinson.

The Como scout said: "Off the ball, Lamine Camara has an insane engine covering large amounts of ground. He anticipates passes well and uses his speed to quickly get tight to the ball/player.

"His acceleration and top speed enable him to recover and defend big spaces. Often, he’ll use his speed to close down attackers and make well-timed sliding tackles."

Indeed, the Monaco star excels from a defensive point of view, averaging 2.7 tackles and 1.8 interceptions per 90 in Ligue 1 last season, with the latter figure ranking him joint-first in the squad.

However, the maestro is also capable of making an impact going forward, as shown by the fact he has picked up five goals and 11 assists in 71 matches since signing for Monaco from fellow French side Metz.

Just 22-years-old, the Senegalese midfielder has already amassed 37 caps for his national side, making four appearances at the World Cup, and he is now attracting interest from one of the world's biggest clubs.

Manchester United have now submitted a formal enquiry to find out the conditions of a deal for Camara, Football FanCast sources understand, as the race for his signature continues to heat up. Sources suggest the central midfielder is valued at £65m, which means INEOS may need to spend big to get a deal over the line, but they are serious about adding a third new face in the centre of the park.

Crystal Palace recently submitted an offer for the Senegal star, while Liverpool have also been credited with an interest, but the most serious competition will come from Newcastle. The Magpies were strongly linked with the midfielder earlier this summer, and while they have since signed Camara's teammate in that position, Aladji Bamba, sources suggest they are considering a return to the Monaco market following the departure of captain Bruno Guimaraes.

Man Utd eyeing Adam Wharton as Lamine Camara alternative

Man United are also very keen on signing Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton, having lost Casemiro earlier this summer, while Manuel Ugarte is set for an extended spell on the sidelines due to an ACL injury.

Wharton could be a better option than Camara, considering he is already proven in the Premier League, picking up one goal and ten assists in 70 matches in the competition for Palace.

Fellow Englishman Myles Lewis-Skelly is more of a left-field option, with United recently being gifted an opportunity to sign the Arsenal star. Although a left-back by trade, the 19-year-old was regularly deployed as a central midfielder by Mikel Arteta during the latter stages of the 2025-26 season.
