Tottenham have turned the closing stages of the transfer window into a major test of Man City’s willingness to sell.

The north London club are discussing moves for both Savinho and Omar Marmoush, with Roberto De Zerbi seeking two different weapons for his attack rather than two players competing for precisely the same job.

Spurs-Savinho

The Guardian reports that talks over a possible £150 million package are progressing, although there is no agreement for either player yet. Savinho’s part of the operation appears to be further advanced after fresh reporting from Brazil today suggested the winger is moving closer to a switch.

Marmoush would offer something different.

The Egypt international, who played every game for his nation at the World Cup this summer, is a centre-forward who can also operate from the left or as a second striker, which helps to explain why Spurs are pursuing him even as their expensive move for Savinho gathers speed.

The Brazilian could provide width and carry the ball into dangerous areas, while Marmoush would give De Zerbi another fantastic runner capable of appearing across the front line.

His most productive football came when he was given that freedom at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Before joining City in January 2025, Marmoush bagged an incredible 20 goals and 14 assists across 26 appearances during the first half of that season.

His first full campaign in Manchester was much quieter, finishing 25/26 with eight goals and three assists from 36 appearances in all competitions, and only three of those goals came in the Premier League, where he played 21 times.

Erling Haaland remained City’s main striker, and Marmoush was often asked to make an impact without enjoying a settled run through the middle.

De Zerbi personally loves Marmoush with Tottenham in talks for Man City star

A fresh update on Tottenham’s pursuit has arrived from Sky Sports News reporter Michael Bridge, who says De Zerbi is personally keen on the 27-year-old.

“De Zerbi, we believe, is a very big fan as well of Omar Marmoush,” said Bridge.

“Marmoush has been in and out of the side, I mean it’s not easy to dislodge Erling Haaland.

“So talks are continuing, nothing done yet, but all we’re hearing is positive.”

City paid Eintracht Frankfurt around £59 million for him, and The Times reports that they want more than that figure, so agreeing both transfers would require another huge commitment from Spurs.

De Zerbi’s admiration could matter if Marmoush wants a clearer role.

Savinho would offer greater touchline threat, but Marmoush could compete with Dominic Solanke, partner him or attack from the left.

There is considerable work left, but Bridge’s update suggests negotiations are moving in the right direction.
