Manchester United are now the frontrunners to sign Alex Scott, but Bournemouth are determined to retain the midfielder beyond the summer transfer window.

Casemiro pays tribute to Man Utd fans ahead of summer exit

Casemiro is set to go out on a high at Man United, having played a major role in Michael Carrick's side qualifying for next season's Champions League by picking up nine goals and two assists in 33 Premier League matches.

However, the Brazilian's time at Old Trafford is coming to an end, and he has now paid tribute to the supporters in an interview with Rio Ferdinand, saying: "In this moment? For me, the best thing in this club is the fans. I played a long time in Madrid and I lost games. In the next game... It's very difficult. And here, it doesn't matter. Support. Support, help every time.

"For me, it's a big surprise. For me, the best thing here is the fans. Every time, help, fans. Support, support, support, support. It doesn't matter the game."

With Casemiro's departure imminent, the Red Devils have set out to sign a new central midfielder in the upcoming window, and Scott has emerged as a target, with a potential price tag of £50m recently being touted.

There has now been a further update on Man United's pursuit of the AFC Bournemouth star, with a report from Sports Boom stating they have entered pole position in the race for his signature, despite interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

However, Bournemotuh are desperate to keep hold of the Englishman, who has been one of their most important players in the Premier League this season, featuring in every single match.

It has been a fantastic campaign for the Cherries, who are knocking on the door of Champions League qualification, with sixth place able to gain access to Europe's elite competition if Aston Villa finish in 5th and defeat SC Freiburg in the Europa League final.

The 22-year-old has three goals and one assist to his name in the Premier League, and he is solid at the opposite end of the pitch, averaging 12.0 defensive contributions per 90, which is the highest number in the Bournemouth squad.

Man Utd's midfield targets

Having been lauded as "sensational" by content creator Benjamin Bloom, Scott could be an exciting signing for Man United, but he is far from the only option on their shortlist of midfield targets.

With it being widely reported Marcus Rashford wants to join FC Barcelona permanently, the Red Devils have also set out to sign a new forward this summer.
