Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayVeteran guard Malcolm Brogdon, who had been competing for a roster spot with the New York Knicks during training camp, has chosen to retire from professional basketball.
The news comes from Shams Charania of ESPN, who reported via Twitter that Brogdon is ending his playing career.
According to Charania, the player appeared to be in a strong position to make the Knicks’ regular-season roster after signing a non-guaranteed Exhibit 9 deal.
Despite that opportunity, the 32-year-old had already been weighing the idea of retirement and officially notified the Knicks of his decision on Wednesday.
“Today, I officially begin my transition out of my basketball career,” Brogdon wrote in a statement.
“I have proudly given my mind, body, and spirit to the game over the last few decades. With the many sacrifices it took to get here, I have received many rewards. I am deeply grateful to have arrived to this point on my own terms and now to be able to reap the benefits of my career with my family and friends. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to all who have had a place in my journey.”
Brogdon has played 9 seasons for 5 teams, including the Pacers and Bucks. He has averaged 15.3 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in 463 regular-season games.
He has won the Rookie of the Year award and 1 Sixth Man of the Year award.
