LeBron James’ free agency remains unresolved nearly a month after announcing he would not return to the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2026-27 season, and even those close to him are uncertain about his plans.

“Nobody knows right now except LeBron,” a source told The Athletic. “And I’m not even sure LeBron knows.”

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers are all still waiting for James’ decision while considering other roster options.

At Fanatics Fest last week, James hinted the wait could soon be over.

“I won’t hold you guys up too much longer,” said James.

His agent, Rich Paul, said all necessary discussions with the five teams have already taken place.

“Is there anything more we should be doing? We could be doing?” said Paul. “No. We don’t need you to go above and beyond about anything. We understand it. It’s clear. All the messages have been sent.”

The delay has sparked widespread speculation, including rumors involving the Miami Heat and claims James had changed his mind, both of which were dismissed by people close to him.

Meanwhile, Draymond Green declined his player option to give Golden State flexibility for a potential pursuit of James, while James Harden has remained unsigned as Cleveland keeps cap space available in hopes of landing the four-time MVP.
