The Los Angeles Lakers are operating normally despite the ownership transition and the latest Buss family dispute, but uncertainty could delay planned front office changes, via Dan Woike of The Athletic

League sources believe the Lakers may be unable to complete their basketball operations expansion until the ownership situation is settled.

The team planned to add two assistant general managers focused on analytics and player scouting, while its pro scouting department also remains unfinished.

The uncertainty follows Mark Walter’s agreement to sell the Lakers to Bob Iger and Josh Kushner at a $12.5 billion valuation.

Jeanie Buss has challenged an effort to sell the family’s remaining stake, arguing through her attorney that the trust cannot force the transaction.

Iger acknowledged that plans remain unsettled.

“It’s just premature to speculate at all about what we plan to do, because frankly, we haven’t made any plans yet,” said Iger.

With preseason approaching, completing the front office overhaul on time appears increasingly difficult.

Rob Pelinka, who received a contract extension in 2025, remains in charge of basketball operations.
