The door on the New York Knicks hiring Jason Kidd as head coach "is not completely closed," according to Ian Begley of SNY. The news comes after the Mavs denied the Knicks' request to speak to Kidd last week. Begley adds that the move remains possible as of Monday.

Kidd was hired by the Mavericks in 2021 to replace Rick Carlisle and has led the team to the Western Conference Finals twice, including a run to the NBA Finals in 2024. Kidd and the Mavericks signed a contract extension during the playoffs in 2024.

The Knicks are set to meet with Taylor Jenkins and Mike Brown this week. Both Jenkins and Brown were fired by their respective teams, the Memphis Grizzlies and Sacramento Kings, in-season.

New York is searching for a replacement for Tom Thibodeau after firing him despite reaching the Eastern Conference Finals. The Knicks initially reached out to a number of currently employed head coaches including Kidd, Billy Donovan, Quin Snyder, Ime Udoka and Chris Finch. Donovan is close to signing a contract extension with the Chicago Bulls since the Knicks initiated a request to speak with him.
