Klutch Sports Group has reportedly explored potential trade destinations for Anthony Davis, but those efforts have yet to gain traction as the Washington Wizards prepare to open extension talks with the 10-time All-Star.

According to Ashish Mathur of Dallas Hoops Journal, sources said Klutch attempted to position Davis with either the Cleveland Cavaliers or Golden State Warriors. However, neither franchise is interested in acquiring the veteran big man or committing to a maximum extension, which Davis becomes eligible to sign on Aug. 6.

“Klutch is trying to get AD to Cleveland or Golden State,” one source told Dallas Hoops Journal. “Neither team wants to do it.”

The reported lack of interest has also influenced LeBron James’ free agency outlook. Mathur reported that Miami has emerged as the frontrunner to sign James because the Heat would not need to acquire Davis first. Sources added that Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo have been actively recruiting James to South Florida, where he won two NBA championships and two Finals MVP awards between 2012 and 2013.

James remains one of the NBA’s premier free agents after leaving the Los Angeles Lakers following the 2025-26 season. Despite turning 41 in December, he averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists across 60 regular-season games last season before posting 23.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists during the Lakers’ 10 playoff games.

While Davis has become part of the broader speculation surrounding James’ next destination, recent reporting suggests neither the player nor the Wizards are rushing toward a long-term decision.

According to Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, both Davis and Washington are expected to take a patient approach after the Aug. 6 extension window opens. One source told Scoop B Radio, “Don’t spend much time on AD extension in DC. They’re in no rush there.”

That stance aligns with Washington’s broader timeline. The Wizards finished an NBA-worst 17-65 last season before landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, selecting AJ Dybantsa. The franchise also added Trae Young during the season, giving the organization an opportunity to evaluate its new core before making another significant financial commitment.

Davis has yet to play a regular-season game for Washington after arriving in the Feb. 5 blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks. Before the deal, he appeared in 20 games for Dallas, averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.1 steals while shooting 50.6% from the field.

Across 14 NBA seasons, Davis has compiled career averages of 24.0 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 807 regular-season games. He has earned 10 All-Star selections, five All-NBA honors and five All-Defensive Team selections.

The Wizards have also shown little indication they are looking to move Davis. The Athletic’s Fred Katz recently reported that Washington has no interest in trading the veteran center unless it receives an overwhelming offer. Previous reports indicated the organization would seek a package including Jimmy Butler and multiple first-round picks in any discussions with the Golden State Warriors.

Davis recently expressed confidence in Washington’s outlook, saying at Fanatics Fest that he expects to play all 82 games, believes the Wizards can win more than 40 games next season and predicted Dybantsa will be the NBA’s Rookie of the Year.

With Cleveland and Golden State reportedly unwilling to pursue Davis, and Washington showing no urgency to either trade him or extend him immediately, Aug. 6 appears more likely to mark the beginning of a deliberate evaluation period than a pivotal deadline.
