The New York Yankees headed into Monday's series opener against the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays needing a big swing of the bat in a major way.

New York got exactly what it needed from its super utility man, who's been steady throughout his time in the pinstripes.

Jose Caballero swings the Yankees to a win

New York entered the top of the fifth inning without not only a run, but also without a hit. Both the shutout and no-hitter were snapped with one swing from Jose Caballero.

Caballero launched a three-run homer to get the Yankees on the board. It was the first time since June 25 against the Boston Red Sox that New York was the team to first take the lead in a game.

One home run wasn't enough

Caballero stepped up to the plate again to lead off the eighth inning, and he provided the same result he did in his previous at-bat. Caballero launched a solo home run to give the Yankees an important insurance run.

The two home runs for Caballero in Monday's 5-1 win gave him a new career high of 10, with just under 70 games remaining. 

Jose Caballero should be the everyday shortstop 

According to a stat shown from YES Network during Monday's game, the Yankees entered Monday 31-18 on the season when Caballero starts at shortstop, compared to 16-20 when the struggling Anthony Volpe starts there.

The numbers continue to suggest that Caballero deserves the consistent and steady playing time at shortstop, rather than splitting time with Volpe.
