Jon Jones is perplexed by the narrative surrounding Islam Makhachev’s UFC resume following the welterweight champ’s latest win.

UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev broke Anderson Silva’s record for most consecutive UFC wins with another dominant performance last weekend. Makhachev defeated Ian Machado Garry in the UFC 330 main event in his first welterweight title defense.

After Makhachev’s latest win, the conversation for the greatest UFC fighter of all time reignited. Makhachev’s stance as one of the UFC’s few two-division champions, along with his latest record-breaking performance, led many to promote his GOAT status.

Former two-division champion Jon Jones, who recently lambasted Daniel Cormier’s GOAT take on Khabib Nurmagomedov, weighed in on Makhachev’s case.

In a recent tweet, Jones responded to the recent GOAT talk surrounding Makhachev after UFC 330.

“I’m so confused, make it make sense.”

Jones posted an image featuring the standings of the most title fight wins in UFC history, with himself at the top of the list (16 wins). He leads the pack, including Georges St-Pierre, Demetrious Johnson, and former two-division titleholder Amanda Nunes.

In contrast, Makhachev sits at 7 title wins in his UFC career, with the latest coming at UFC 330. Despite recent speculation that Makhachev could retire following UFC 330, the UFC’s pound-for-pound king shut down the notion of hanging up the gloves anytime soon.

Jones walked away from Mixed Martial Arts last year after a long contract dispute with the UFC to fight Tom Aspinall. He briefly teased a return on the recent White House card before UFC CEO Dana White excluded him.

Jones’ comments aren’t the first to question the inclusion of members of Team Khabib in the UFC GOAT conversation. He’s repeatedly questioned Nurmagomedov’s GOAT case due to the former lightweight champion’s abrupt retirement in 2020.
