Longtime UFC analyst Joe Rogan advised heavyweight Sean Sharaf to consider retiring after his UFC 331 upset win.
UFC heavyweight Sean Sharaf pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the promotion’s history last month at UFC 331. Just seconds into his fight with Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson, Sharaf knocked out the promising prospect to hand him his first career MMA loss.
It was a shocking result after Steveson, who made his UFC debut earlier this year at UFC 329, entered UFC 331 as a significant betting favorite. Sharaf entered UFC 331 with a 0-2 record in the Octagon.
Sharaf, a former U.S. Marine, is basking in his newfound stardom after UFC 331. But Sharaf has admitted he’s considered hanging up the gloves following the Steveson fight, and doesn’t have championship aspirations.
Joe Rogan invited Sharaf on his podcast and shared his take on the heavyweight’s future.
Joe Rogan and Sean Sharaf talk potential retirement after UFC 331 win
During a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan was asked about Sharaf considering retirement following his career win at UFC 331.
“Well if that’s the case (and you are considering retiring), then definitely go and take mushrooms with your dog because the decision is going to always be entirely yours because it depends entirely on who you are and where you are,” Rogan said to Sharaf.
“There’s nothing wrong with you walking away right now if you want to do that, so you have to think about it. And I think a moment like that is so big that you have to let it settle before you decide.” (h/t Bloody Elbow)
Before signing with the UFC in 2024, Sharaf won his first three professional fights by first-round knockout. Despite his impressive accomplishment at UFC 331, Sharaf seems open to ending his MMA career, and Rogan seems supportive of that decision.
