Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayFormer two-division world champion Jermall Charlo will attempt to restart his career once again when he faces Australia’s Koen Mazoudier in a 10-round super welterweight bout on July 26 at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.
The fight is part of the Amazon Prime PPV undercard headlined by Errol Spence Jr. and Tim Tszyu.
Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs) was once viewed as one of Premier Boxing Champions’ future stars and a fighter destined for major pay-per-view events. Instead, inactivity has become the defining theme of his career over the last several years.
The 36-year-old Charlo has fought only twice since 2021, with long stretches of inactivity limiting his activity during what would typically be considered a fighter’s prime years.
The 36-year-old last fought in December 2024, stopping Thomas LaManna in five rounds.
Mazoudier (15-4-1, 6 KOs) enters on a six-fight winning streak and holds the Australian super welterweight title.
The Sydney native’s most notable bout came in August 2024, when he was stopped in nine rounds by Nikita Tszyu.
A victory could position Charlo for a more recognizable opponent later this year. One name that has frequently surfaced in discussions is former IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant.
Charlo and Plant have been linked to each other in the past, though it remains unclear if Charlo’s team is pursuing that fight or targeting a bigger name. Plant’s stock has slipped following losses to Armando Resendiz, David Benavidez and Canelo Alvarez, making him a less attractive option than he would have been several years ago.
Also added to the card is former unified super bantamweight champion Stephen Fulton (23-2, 8 KOs), who will face Australia’s Liam Wilson (18-3, 10 KOs) in a 12-round super featherweight bout.
Fulton is coming off a one-sided, unanimous decision loss to O’Shaquie Foster last December in a fight that was largely non-competitive. It was the second dominant defeat of Fulton’s career, following his eighth-round knockout loss to Naoya Inoue in July 2023.
Wilson has won five straight fights since suffering a seventh-round stoppage loss to Oscar Valdez in March 2024 and will be looking to secure the biggest victory of his career on home soil.
