Jeanie Buss will remain governor of the Los Angeles Lakers for at least the next five seasons, a team source tells The Athletic. The Buss family agreed to sell their majority stake in the Lakers to Mark Walters last month. The sale agreement between Buss, Walter and the NBA will allow her to remain in her role.

The Lakers were sold at a $10 billion valuation and it was unclear exactly how long Buss would remain as governor. Similarly, the Boston Celtics were recently sold with Wyc Grousbeck remaining as governor for a period of time.

Buss became Governor of the Lakers in 2013 after the death of her father Dr. Jerry Buss. Buss allowed Mitch Kupchak and her brother, Jim Buss, to remain in control of basketball operations of the Lakers until 2017 when she fired them and hired Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka as their replacements.

Buss recently signed Pelinka to a contract extension.
