Jackson Jobe made his long-awaited 2026 debut for the Detroit Tigers against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday at Oracle Park. 

The 24-year-old right-hander was officially reinstated from the 60-day injured list on Friday, and his return will help fill a void with the departures of Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize. 

Jobe hasn't pitched since May 28, 2025, following a 14-month recovery from hybrid Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. 

The Tigers own a 9-1 record when Jobe takes the mound, illustrating how he's been a dominant force when he's healthy. Now, his return comes at a critical time as the Tigers are battling for a spot in the AL wild-card race.

The key for Jobe's success against the Giants was to generate early swing-and-miss and to do it consistently. That's exactly what he achieved. He was packing the heat early and didn't waste any time, with a 100-mph fastball to get Bryce Eldridge to strike out in the first inning.

Jobe's true ace potential was on full display as he generated a ton of swinging strikes and earned four strikeouts across the first three innings. He didn't give up his first hit until the fourth. 

He struck out Rafael Devers with a nasty 85 mph changeup in a scoreless bottom of the second, followed by a scoreless bottom of the third, where he got Eddys Leonard and Christian Koss to strike out swinging. 

It was an impressive outing for Jobe, who pitched five scoreless innings (71 pitches), giving up only one hit, one walk and striking out four. He also only allowed two baserunners. 

Overall, Jobe's resilient nature was in full view, a positive sign for the Tigers.
