Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayJack Catterall (33-2, 14 KOs) captured the WBA regular welterweight title on Saturday night with a dominant unanimous decision victory over previously unbeaten Shakhram Giyasov (17-1, 10 KOs) at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
The scorecards read 119-108, 118-109, and 116-111 after 12 rounds.
Catterall controlled the fight from the start with his jab, movement, and counter punching, rarely allowing Giyasov to settle into a steady offensive flow. The British southpaw consistently created angles, landed clean left hands, and mixed in effective body work as Giyasov struggled to close the distance for long stretches.
The gap between the two fighters became more noticeable as the rounds passed.
Giyasov continued pressing forward and showed determination throughout the contest, but Catterall repeatedly disrupted his attacks with sharp counters and disciplined defense. A knockdown scored by Catterall further widened the lead and left Giyasov chasing the fight on the scorecards.
By the championship rounds, the result looked increasingly clear.
Catterall’s performance drew attention because of how assertive he looked compared to some of his previous outings. Rather than fighting cautiously, he controlled exchanges, took initiative when openings appeared, and boxed with confidence against an opponent who entered the fight unbeaten.
The victory gives Catterall a secondary version of the WBA welterweight title and places him in a position for larger fights at 147 pounds moving forward.
“I just feel like sometimes I get into the matrix and I take my time figuring out the puzzle and I felt comfortable in there tonight,” said Catterall.
“I’m at welterweight, third fight at welterweight. I feel strong. I’m going to feel good and I’m just buzzing.”
For Giyasov, the defeat marked the first loss of his professional career after entering the bout with momentum and high expectations. Despite some success with late body shots and pressure, he was unable to consistently solve Catterall’s timing and defensive style over the full 12 rounds.
“I just want to give a lot of credit to Shakhram. He’s been out the ring for over a year. He’s had personal stuff going on. What a fighter, man,” said Catterall.
