After an astounding 1.3 million runners entered next year’s London Marathon ballot, we heard whispers (and some quite bold statements) that the race could become a two-day event. This morning, organisers LME announced the 2027 TCS London Marathon Double. Scream!

What will the dates of London Marathon Double 2027 be?

This year, for the first time there are two dates to note! It’ll be taking place on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th April 2027.

Is this a permanent change?

Sadly no – at least not yet. LME were quick to say that it’s a one-off change that will be a spectacular two-day celebration. We’re hoping that, if it proves successful, more may happen in the future. So many of us would love to run London but never get a spot – this doubles the chances!

How many people will get to run?

The unique Double format will welcome a record-breaking 100,000 participants. All runners will still take on the same iconic route, running from Greenwich to Westminster.

Is it possible to run both days?

No – the idea is to create more opportunities for runners to take part in the race after the extraordinary increase in demand for places we’ve seen in the last few years. But if you’re keen to do two marathons in a row (we’re deeply impressed!) you can do the in-person event one day, then the virtual event on the other.

If I’ve entered the ballot, do I automatically get entered into the London Marathon Double draw?

Yes! Everyone who has already applied to take part next year will be entered into the ballot for both the Saturday and the Sunday. Results will be announced very soon, in early July.

When will the elites be running the London Marathon Double?

The elite women, elite female para-athletes, championship women and ‘good for age’ women will lead the mass event on one of the days. The corresponding men’s categories will lead the mass event on the other. The exact days haven’t been confirmed yet – this and other logistical details will be confirmed closer to the time.

Can I still run the London Marathon Double for charity?

Yes absolutely. You’ll need to confirm with your individual charity which day you’ll be doing. Organisers foresee that the event will be the largest fundraising moment in UK sport, giving charities double the opportunity to raise funds of potentially more than £150m.

Is there other way of getting to take part?

Yes. The Double is all about inspiring and supporting the next generation. As such, every school in London will receive two guaranteed entries for teachers or staff. Extra entries have also been set aside for runners from grassroots groups and charities within the boroughs along the route.

Will the Expo and other events still take place?

Yes – and they’ll be bigger and better than ever! An extended London Marathon Running Show is planned, which will include a special London Marathon Friday Night Lights 5K. The TCS Mini London Marathon will take place on Friday 23rd April, welcoming over 20,000 participants.
