Orgo-Life the new way to the future

The hybrid training boom has created a footwear dilemma. Running shoes are often too soft for wall balls and lunges, while traditional gym shoes can feel clunky during running intervals. Enter the Adidas Adizero Dropset Pro, a shoe designed specifically to bridge that gap.

Combining the responsive feel of adidas’s Adizero running range with the stability and grip of its Dropset training line, it’s aimed at HYROX athletes and anyone whose workouts mix cardio and strength in equal measure. Sitting below the race-focused Adizero Dropset Elite, which was developed specifically for competition, the Dropset Pro is designed as the everyday training companion, offering many of the same technologies in a more accessible package. And a lower price point.

Adidas Adizero Dropset Pro pros and cons

Pros

  • One of the most runnable hybrid shoes available.
  • Excellent grip and stability.
  • Versatile enough for hybrid athletes.

Cons

  • A little narrow for those with wider feet
  • Not 100% running or lifting shoe.

Who and what is this shoe for?

The Dropset Pro is aimed squarely at HYROX athletes, hybrid racers and anyone whose training combines running with functional fitness. If your sessions regularly include treadmill intervals, rowing, sled pushes, farmer’s carries and wall balls, this shoe makes a lot of sense. It’s less suited to pure runners or dedicated lifters, who’ll still get better performance from specialist footwear.

How does it fit?

I found the Dropset Pro fitted true to size with a secure, performance-oriented feel. The upper wraps closely around the foot, creating a locked-in sensation that feels reassuring during both running and strength exercises.

The heel hold is excellent, and I didn’t experience any slipping during lunges or squats. The forefoot isn’t especially roomy, however, so runners with wider feet may find it a little snug compared to traditional training shoes.

Is the Adidas Adizero Dropset Pro comfortable?

Comfort is impressive considering the shoe is trying to do two very different jobs. The Lightstrike Pro midsole provides noticeably more cushioning and responsiveness than most gym shoes, making running intervals feel comfortable and efficient.

At the same time, the relatively low stack height and thin Adizero sockliner keep you feeling connected to the ground during strength exercises. It’s not as plush as a dedicated running shoe, nor as firm as a lifting shoe, but it strikes a sensible balance between the two.

Adidas Adizero Dropset Pro run and workout test

My first test of this shoe was in my garage gym and involved warming up on my exercise bike, then some functional exercises interspersed with some time on the treadmill.

I have to say, this is one of the most convincing hybrid shoes I’ve tested. During treadmill intervals, the Lightstrike Pro foam delivers a lively, energetic feel that’s far closer to a running shoe than a traditional gym trainer. The addition of Energy Rods helps create a smooth transition and gives a little extra propulsion when picking up the pace.

Move onto the exercises and the shoe remains impressively stable. The lower stack, secure upper and wide platform provide confidence during weighted lunges, squats and farmer’s carries, while the combination of Lighttraxion and Continental™ rubber delivers excellent grip.

What impressed me most was how natural the transitions felt. With many hybrid shoes, you can clearly feel the compromise. Here, the balance is much better. It isn’t quite as fast as the Adizero Dropset Elite which I tested in a short hybrid Sprint, and it won’t replace a dedicated lifting shoe for maximal strength work, but it handles both disciplines well enough that most hybrid athletes won’t feel short-changed.

Where can I buy it?

The Adidas Adizero Dropset Pro is available from Adidas and selected retailers.
