Anthony Gordon became Newcastle United's second-most expensive sale of all time when he completed a move to Spanish giants Barcelona earlier this week.
The England international completed a £70m switch to the Camp Nou, a fee that is only dwarfed by the £125m that Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak last summer.
Gordon, who showed off his impressive Spanish in his unveiling at Barcelona, leaves St. James' Park after scoring 17 goals and providing five assists in all competitions in the 2025/26 campaign.
The 25-year-old star scored 38 goals and assisted a further 21 in his three full seasons on Tyneside after his move from Everton halfway through the 2022/23 season.
Eddie Howe will now be without his pace and direct play on the left flank heading into next season, which is why the Magpies must dip into the market to find a replacement for him.
Newcastle ramping up efforts to sign Anthony Gordon replacement
Whilst Gordon only scored six goals in the Premier League this season, the forward's statistics throughout his career at the club show that they have lost a big offensive threat.
Now, PIF are reportedly looking at bringing in a talent who could be Howe's next version of the former Everton star on the left wing for next season.
According to reports on X, PIF are pushing to secure a Newcastle United deal for Hoffenheim forward Bazoumana Toure in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Magpies are said to be accelerating their efforts to bring the Ivorian talent over to the Premier League, and are now pushing hard to get a move over the line this summer.
Previous reports have suggested that the German club would be willing to do business at a price of £34m, but it remains to be seen how much PIF are willing to pay for his services.Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in the 20-year-old winger, which means that Newcastle may have to move quickly to beat off competition from their Premier League rivals.
How Bazoumana Toure can be like Anthony Gordon for Newcastle United
Howe could have his new version of Gordon on the left wing if the club can get a deal over the line with Hoffenheim for Toure this summer, as he can offer similar attributes out wide.
He is not an exact replica of the England international, as he is a left-footed player, but they are both rapid left-sided attackers who can contribute with goals, assists, and ball carrying.
The £34m-rated talent ranked in the top 7% of wingers in the Bundesliga for successful dribbles (48) and the top 7% for possessions won in the final third (21), which shows that he is like Gordon in the sense that he loves to dribble at defenders and is an excellent presser.

Toure also ended the 2025/26 league season with more than twice as many 'big chances' created than the former Newcastle forward, whilst only scoring one less goal.
Whilst there is no guarantee that his form translates over to the Premier League, the Ivorian star appears to have the potential to offer even more to the Magpies in the final third than the Englishman, particularly as a creative threat.
The attacker was once described as an "explosive" player by talent scout Jacek Kulig, and that is a description that also fits Gordon, who uses his speed to cause havoc at the top end of the pitch.
What can often be a problem with players like that is that they do not have the consistency in their play in front of goal after using their pace to get into good positions, but both of these stars have shown that they can score and assist fairly regularly.
At the age of 20, Toure is also five years younger than Gordon and would arrive at St. James' Park with plenty of time left ahead of him to develop and improve as he gains more experience, which means that he could be a fantastic signing for now and for the future.
Losing Gordon is a blow, because he had proven himself in the Premier League, but the Hoffenheim starlet has all the attributes and potential to be Howe's new version of the star on the left wing if the club can get a deal done in the coming weeks.
