Newcastle United's summer rebuild appears to be gathering momentum after a disappointing 2025/26 campaign, with Eddie Howe already linked with a host of potential arrivals as the Magpies look to bounce back next season.

Newcastle looking to back Eddie Howe with summer signings

The transfer rumour mill has been working overtime in recent days.

Reports have linked Newcastle with Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado as they search for midfield reinforcements, with Sandro Tonali consistely tipped for the St. James' exit door.

Meanwhile, the club are also believed to be considering further additions between the posts amid uncertainty surrounding the long-term futures of several goalkeepers.

After finishing well below expectations last season, there is a growing feeling that Newcastle need fresh competition throughout the squad if they are to challenge for the European places again.

The Magpies are scouring for additions across the board, with Howe's side also eyeing Osasuna winger Victor Munoz after Anthony Gordon's big-money move to Barcelona.

Now, it looks as though the first major piece of that rebuild is about to fall into place.

Newcastle to complete Ewen Jaouen signing this week after deal agreed

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Newcastle will complete the formal steps of a deal for Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen this week after reaching an agreement with the French club.

The Italian journalist says the 20-year-old is closing in on a move worth around £18million, with the highly-rated goalkeeper expected to arrive on Tyneside in the coming days.

The deal has been developing for some time.

Newcastle have been in talks with Reims for several weeks and confidence has steadily grown behind the scenes that an agreement would eventually be reached.

Other reports have suggested interest from elsewhere in Europe, including Chelsea, but Newcastle appear to have won the race for his signature.

Jaouen is viewed as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in French football and fits the recruitment profile Newcastle have increasingly targeted in recent windows.

Rather than focusing solely on established stars, the club have looked to secure younger talents capable of developing into first-team regulars over the coming years.

Standing at 6ft 6in and already involved at international youth level, Jaouen is regarded as a player with significant upside.

His arrival could also trigger further movement in Newcastle's goalkeeping department.

Nick Pope has been linked with interest from both Leeds United and Ipswich Town in recent days, while reports have suggested Newcastle could still pursue another experienced goalkeeper even after Jaouen's arrival.

Brighton's Bart Verbruggen and Man City's James Trafford have both been mentioned as potential targets.

That underlines the scale of the task facing Howe this summer.

Newcastle's recruitment team know improvements are required after a frustrating campaign and supporters will expect more arrivals to follow.

For now, however, all eyes are on Jaouen.

If the final paperwork is completed as expected this week, the French youngster will become the first signing of what Newcastle hope will be a busy and transformative summer transfer window.
