The Los Angeles Lakers will have to pay a steep price if they want to acquire veteran wing Andrew Wiggins from the Miami Heat this offseason, according to NBA insider Jovan Buha.

Lakers Must Trade Knecht, Hachimura To Acquire Andrew Wiggins

The Heat are reportedly asking for a package of Dalton Knecht, Rui Hachimura, and a first-round draft pick from the Lakers in exchange for Wiggins.

That package is similar to the deal L.A. put forth for Mark Williams prior to the trade deadline in February.

The Lakers originally agreed to send Knecht, Cam Reddish, a 2030 pick swap and a 2031 first-round pick to the Charlotte Hornets, but they rescinded the deal after Williams failed his physical.

Los Angeles, however, was only willing to make that trade for Williams because it was in dire need of a center. Wiggins could be a valuable addition to the Lakers’ frontcourt, but he would come at a high cost.

The former No. 1 overall pick was a key contributor for the Golden State Warriors during their 2021-22 championship season. He averaged 17.2 points on 46.6% shooting and was named an All-Star that campaign.

Heat Included Wiggins In Trade Offers For Kevin Durant

Wiggins, 30, has been a consistent option for Miami since last season’s trade deadline, averaging 19 points on 45.8% shooting from the floor (36% from deep) and 4.6 rebounds per contest in 17 games (all starts).

After the Heat finished 37-45 and were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in their first-round playoff series, they reportedly included Wiggins in their trade offers to the Phoenix Suns for Kevin Durant. That was before Durant was dealt to the Houston Rockets.

Another hurdle for any team that wants to acquire Wiggins is his contract.

Per Spotrac, Wiggins is owed $28.2 million next season and has a $30.2 million player option for 2026-27. This is for a player who hasn’t averaged at least 20 points per game in a season since 2019-20.

Wiggins is still a solid defender, but he’s not the same wing he used to be.

Lakers Signed Jaxon Hayes, Deandre Ayton, Jake LaRavia

Free agent center Jaxson Hayes agreed on a one-year deal to return to the Lakers next season Thursday. The deal came one day after the team signed free agent big man Deandre Ayton to a two-year, $16.6 million contract.

His contract also includes a player option for the second season. The Lakers will pay Ayton $8.1 million — the remainder of the midlevel exception after factoring in free agent Jake LaRavia’s salary — in 2025-26.

According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Lakers, Ayton will earn $34 million next season. The seven-year veteran finalized a buyout with Portland on Sunday night.

Jarred Vanderbilt is currently the only Lakers player with a guaranteed contract for 2026-27. Luka Doncic, who has a $49 million player option for 2026-27, is eligible to sign up to a four-year, $229 million extension on Aug. 2.
