After two successive near misses with relegation, there’s a huge importance on quality additions at Tottenham Hotspur to prevent a third successful season of struggle.
Roberto De Zerbi showcased at the end of the 2025/26 campaign that he’s capable of getting the best out of the current crop of players - only losing two of his seven games at the helm.
However, there’s no denying the Italian needs added reinforcements this summer to try and mount a push for a rise up the Premier League table during his first full campaign.
Andy Robertson and Marco Senesi have already agreed free transfers to join the Lilywhites, but with the window opening on Monday, the recruitment team need to step up their efforts.
A plethora of talented options have emerged on their shortlist in recent days, but it remains to be seen how much the manager will be handed to make his desired changes.
Spurs close to agreeing personal terms with £25m target
Despite the window only being open for three days, Spurs have already made some key moves in their transfer market and have started to splash some serious cash.
Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back Jan Paul Van Hecke had already agreed personal terms with the Lilywhites, but a transfer fee has now been agreed with the Seagulls.
De Zerbi’s men have forked out a reported £52m for the Dutchman, which is now just awaiting confirmation before the big-money transfer can be completed.
However, the club’s heavy spending looks set to continue in the near future, as the board appear to be stepping up a move to secure Celtic attacker Benjamin Nygren.
According to Sports Boom, Spurs have entered talks with the player’s representatives in recent days to gain further information ahead of a possible deal this window.
The report also states that discussions over personal terms are progressing positively between the Swedish international and De Zerbi’s men - but formal talks are yet to take place between the two clubs.
Everton are also said to be keen on a deal to land the 24-year-old attacker, with Martin O’Neill’s men demanding at least £25m to sell their Player of the Season.
Why Nygren could be just like Dele for Spurs
Countless top-level attackers have plied their trade at Spurs in years gone by, with midfielder Dele one who managed to showcase his talent on a consistent basis.
The Englishman joined from EFL outfit MK Dons back in the summer of 2015, with many expecting the then 19-year-old to originally link-up with the Lilywhites’ academy setup.
However, he excelled beyond all expectations in North London, subsequently scoring 32 goals and registering 21 assists during his first two seasons in the Premier League.

His talent in making third-man runs behind the striker was second to none, but there’s no doubt he failed to reach his full potential at the club - subsequently leaving in 2022.
However, his talent was evident, and his performances saw him capture the hearts of the fanbase and become one of the division’s most-feared talents during the 2010s.
A move for Nyrgen could see a similar level of talent arrive in North London, with the Celtic star a player who can emulate the Englishman’s success in the capital.
Like Dele, he’s made a name for himself in running past the striker from deep-lying positions - a trait which saw him end the recent campaign on 21 goals and nine assists.
His underlying stats from the most recent campaign in Scotland also highlight his quality - many of which could also make him a fan-favourite upon any move to join De Zerbi’s men.
Nygren, who’s been dubbed “fearless” by international teammate Alexander Isak, registered a staggering 1.4 shots on target per 90 - helping O’Neill’s side claim title glory.
The aforementioned figure ranked him in the top 4% of all attacking midfielders in Europe, whilst also highlighting his comparison to Dele, who loved to trouble the opposition ‘keeper.
The Celtic star also managed to create 2.1 chances per 90, which allowed him to end the campaign on five league assists - whose demonstrates his ability to provide opportunities alongside his goalscoring.
Dele also managed to produce similar talent during his own spell in North London, with Nygren having all of the tools needed to emulate the Englishman’s success at Spurs.
£25m for a player of the 24-year-old’s quality could prove to be an excellent piece of business by De Zerbi’s men - especially if he can emulate his numbers from last season.
His similarity to Dele is there for all to see, with the attacking midfielder able to be the next player in a long line to write his name in the club’s history upon any transfer.
