Manchester United have been in contact to sign another midfielder, despite already signing Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
It was important for Man United to improve their midfield this summer, following Casemiro's departure, and manager Michael Carrick has made it clear just how impressed he's been by Santos already.
Speaking about the former Chelsea man, Carrick said: “I met with him for about 30 minutes. When the meeting finished, I thought, wow, he’s amazing. I’m really excited to work with him.”
Tielemans, on the other hand, arrives at Old Trafford with a wealth of Premier League experience, having made 244 top flight appearances during spells with Aston Villa and Leicester City.
However, even though they have already managed to get two new midfielders through the door, United are keen to bolster their options even further.
Fabrizio Romano drops update on Man Utd's search for midfielder
According to Fabrizio Romano, Man United are now seeking a third midfielder, with Carrick seemingly still keen on signing a Casemiro replacement.
AS Roma's Manu Kone is one of the players United have made an approach to sign, but a deal could be relatively expensive, having been valued at £50m.

The news comes from a reputable source in esteemed transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano. Although Man United have already signed two midfielders this summer, it would be a good move to get another defensive-minded option through the door. That is because there is still uncertainty surrounding the future of Manuel Ugarte. |
|
£50m would be on the expensive side. However, the Red Devils have shelled out more to sign the likes of Casemiro, Mason Mount and Jadon Sancho over the past few years, so the price tag shouldn't be an issue. |
|
Scout Jacek Kulig has lauded Kone as a "one-man army in midfield." Last season, he made 29 Serie A appearances for Roma, picking up two goals and three assists. |
|
With the Frenchman often featuring in a more defensive role, he could be brought in as a replacement for Ugarte. However, it could now be difficult for United to get the Uruguayan off the books, considering he could miss the entire 2026-27 season due to sustaining an ACL injury at the World Cup. |
In full, Romano said: "Man United have made a call to the agents of Manu Kone. There was a call in recent days. There are more targets but Man United are looking for that kind of player."
Why Manu Kone could flourish at Man Utd
The 25-year-old is an established international, featuring in five of France's World Cup matches prior to their semi-final exit at the hands of Spain on Tuesday night.
With Casemiro moving on, Carrick needs to sign a midfielder capable of winning the ball. The France star regained possession in the final third an average of 0.9 times per 90 at the World Cup, the most of any player in Didier Deschamps' squad.
Patrick Vieira has also lauded his compatriot, saying: "He is for me today the best midfielder in France. I'd put him ahead of Tchaouameni and Rabiot because he has this mobility, he is aggressive, he is a ball-winner, and he has the technical ability to be part of the build-up, has the facility with the ball to break lines and move forward."
£50m seems like a fairly reasonable fee for a player who has proven himself at the top level, so Kone could be a fantastic signing for Man United.
