Giannis Antetokounmpo is set to open the 2025–26 season wearing a Milwaukee Bucks uniform.

The update was first reported by ESPN insider Shams Charania, who noted the news in the context of Milwaukee bringing back Giannis’s brother, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, on a one-year deal.

Throughout the offseason, there had been speculation that Giannis might request a trade. The two-time MVP was reportedly weighing whether the Bucks’ roster had the necessary pieces to seriously contend for another championship run.

His future in Milwaukee appeared uncertain as the franchise faced questions about its long-term competitiveness. The Bucks responded with significant roster moves during the summer.

Most notably, they added Myles Turner to the frontcourt after deciding to waive-and-stretch Damian Lillard’s contract, a bold shift that signaled a retooling around Giannis.

Those changes seem to have been enough to convince him to give the Bucks another shot – for now.

By choosing to remain in Milwaukee, Giannis is preparing to embark on his 13th NBA campaign, all with the franchise that drafted him.

His choice keeps him with Milwaukee, though there are still doubts about the Bucks’ ability to contend for a championship this season.
