Ilia Topuria

A former UFC title challenger wants to be former two-division champion Ilia Topuria’s next opponent.

Topuria lost his 155-pound title to Justin Gaethje at UFC Freedom 250 earlier this year. “El Matador” also suffered a broken nose, a shattered foot, and two broken orbital bones during the fight.

While Topuria’s team wants to rematch Justin Gaethje when the 29-year-old returns to the octagon, the UFC brass may have other plans, especially after Arman Tsarukyan’s latest Round 1 KO win over Mauricio Ruffy.

Now, a former UFC lightweight title challenger has a better idea, which the latter believes can potentially help the Georgian-Spaniard.

Renato Moicano calls out Ilia Topuria

Renato Moicano believes Ilia Topuria’s “confidence is broken,” and therefore the latter needs an easy fight when he returns. Moicano, who considers himself the perfect opponent for “El Matador’s” comeback bout, told MMA Fighting:

“Ilia Topuria. That’s a name. He needs an easy fight, right? That’s the truth. We know how the UFC operates. Either they sacrifice him and Paddy Pimblett [against each other], or they will give him a fight to keep rolling so that the guy can get his confidence back. And I think his confidence is broken.”

Topuria will be ready to compete from February 2027, as per his team. When he returns, he’s expected to lock horns with his archrival Paddy Pimblett or potentially run it back with “The Highlight.”

Arman Tsarukyan also has an opponent in mind for Ilia Topuria

Arman Tsarukyan also believes Ilia Topuria should get an easy opponent when he returns to the octagon to bounce back. Tsarukyan wants Topuria to face the 40-year-old Michael Chandler, who’s on a four-fight losing streak. “Batman” told UFC on Paramount+ :

“[Ilia’s] still recovering. Probably next for him is a fight with Michael Chandler, and then come back and fight for the title. After [his last fight] he needs someone easy.”
