Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwaySchofield Sr. blasted the judges after Mason retained his WBO lightweight title, insisting Albert Bell deserved the decision
Floyd Schofield Sr. has accused the judges of denying Albert Bell victory over Abdullah Mason, adding fresh fuel to the debate surrounding Saturday’s WBO lightweight title fight. His comments came after Mason retained the belt by unanimous decision in Cleveland.
Bell pushed Mason hard in their WBO lightweight title fight on Saturday, but came away empty-handed after Mason retained his belt by unanimous decision. The verdict has remained a talking point among fans, with many believing Bell did enough to win.
Schofield Sr., whose son Floyd Schofield Jr. has long been mentioned as a potential opponent for Mason, left little doubt about where he stood.
“I want to shout you out because of the fact that you turned around and won that title because you was winning that,” Schofield Sr. said on social media. “No matter how much they was bullcrapping on the scorecards, no matter how rigged boxing is, you deserve your kudos because you performed good.”
He went even further by adding, “We know they robbed you. We already know. Good job, young man.”
Schofield Sr. also used the moment to dismiss comparisons between Mason and his son.
“And for those comparing Abdullah to Kid, y’all better stop playing with us,” he said.
The comments are likely to resonate with critics of Mason’s performance. The unbeaten champion struggled to impose himself against Bell, who had been inactive for nearly a year entering the fight and lacks the punching power of many of the division’s leading contenders.
Mason is also coming off a difficult win over Sam Noakes last November, leading some fans to question whether he deserves to be ranked ahead of unbeaten contenders such as Floyd Schofield Jr. and William Zepeda.
Schofield Jr. has not fought since stopping Tevin Farmer in the first round a year ago. His next bout has yet to be officially announced.
