Five-star forward Moussa Kamissoko has committed to Syracuse. The commitment marks the first five-star recruit of head coach Gerry McNamara's career and just the second the Orange have landed in the past decade.

Kamissoko chose Syracuse over a group of finalists that included Florida State, Illinois, Virginia and Oklahoma State.

"Growing up, I remember watching Syracuse, and from the moment they started recruiting me, it felt like home," said Kamissoko. "The relationship with the coaching staff, especially Coach G-Mac. That's my guy!"

Kamissoko visited Syracuse earlier this month and cited McNamara's coaching style and the program's facilities as key factors in his decision.

"Coach was a great player at Cuse and went through the whole recruiting process the way that I did," said Kamissoko. "He's a players' coach, and that is what I was looking for. You can tell the guys like playing for him. The practice was detailed, with great vibes.

"The Dome is what impressed me the most. Having the opportunity to play in that atmosphere when it's packed is something I imagined while there on my visit. Can't wait to play in front of the Cuse fans."

Syracuse hired McNamara in March following two seasons at Siena. He previously spent 15 years as an assistant coach at Syracuse under Jim Boeheim and Adrian Autry and was a standout player for the program, helping lead the Orange to a national championship in 2003 before having his No. 3 jersey retired in 2023.

Kamissoko becomes McNamara's first major recruiting statement since returning to Syracuse and the program's first five-star signee since Donnie Freeman in 2024. He's just the second five-star prospect to choose Syracuse since Chris McCullough in 2014.

The 6-foot-7 forward from New York plays at Spire Academy in Ohio and ranks No. 15 overall in the SC Next 100, positioning him as the class's No. 2 power forward. He posted strong numbers on the Nike EYBL circuit with the PSA Cardinals, averaging 16.3 points and 7.2 rebounds across 18 games while shooting better than 35% from three. His production peaked at Nike Peach Jam, where he averaged 16.6 points and 9.4 rebounds, ranking sixth overall in the latter category.

Kamissoko shot 56.3% on two-point attempts during EYBL play, with his interior scoring and finishing ability standing out as his primary offensive strengths. His perimeter shooting remains a developing part of his game.

"I just want to make sure I'm ready to contribute to winning as soon as I step foot on campus and help compete for a national championship," said Kamissoko.

Kamissoko becomes Syracuse's second commitment in the 2027 recruiting class, joining three-star forward Jack Donohue.
