Wach’s Recent Form

The matchup looks one-sided, even by the standards of a tune-up fight.

Wach (39-13, 20 KOs) has lost eight of his last 12 fights. The 6-foot-7 Pole once challenged Wladimir Klitschko for the heavyweight championship and has shared the ring with Dillian Whyte, Joseph Parker and Hughie Fury, but those days are well behind him.

More recently, Wach was stopped in two rounds by Moses Itauma in 2024 after suffering a sixth-round knockout loss to Arslanbek Makhmudov two years earlier. Fury, meanwhile, cruised to a wide unanimous decision over Makhmudov this past April.

The Countdown To Joshua

The fight comes less than two weeks before Fury is expected to begin the final stage of preparation for his blockbuster clash with Anthony Joshua, making Wach the final opponent he’ll face before one of the biggest events in British boxing.

Many expected Fury to choose a younger, more active heavyweight capable of providing meaningful rounds before stepping into such a high-profile fight. Instead, he’ll face a veteran who offers little on paper to suggest he’ll provide the type of test many were anticipating.

Humanitarian Title And Charity Focus

Fury stressed that the event is also about giving back to a place that has become an important part of his career.

“2026 is a landmark year for me in boxing, and I’m excited to be able to bring this event to Pattaya, a part of the world that is special to me,” Fury said.

“We’re coming together to put on a great show for the fans, while using the opportunity to give back to the local community, who have been so good to me every time I have visited.”

The event is being staged as a fundraiser, with ticket proceeds going to local charities in Pattaya. The WBC also announced it will present Fury with its inaugural Humanitarian Title during the show in recognition of the charitable initiative.

Team Fury Dismisses Complacency

Despite the difference in recent form between the two heavyweights, Fury’s team insists they are treating the bout as an important part of his preparation.

Manager Spencer Brown said there can be no room for complacency with the Joshua fight on the horizon.

“This fight is serious preparation for his fight with Anthony Joshua, and we cannot afford any slip-ups at this stage,” Brown said.

Promoter Frank Warren also said Fury is in excellent condition and expects him to deliver a vintage performance in Thailand.

Anthony Joshua is also taking a tune-up before their long-awaited showdown, meeting Kristian Prenga on July 25 in Saudi Arabia. With both heavyweights opting for low-risk opponents, attention will quickly turn to the fight boxing fans have waited years to see.

Aside from Wach’s age and declining record, the matchup offers little stylistic value as preparation for Anthony Joshua.

Wach provides height and experience, but he doesn’t possess Joshua’s fast jab, explosive combinations or concussive power. While the bout may help Fury shake off ring rust, it does little to simulate the speed, athleticism and offensive threat he’ll face later this year. If the objective is to sharpen Fury for the biggest fight of his comeback, this matchup is difficult to justify from a boxing standpoint.
