Police in Georgia are searching for a man accused of stealing a $90,000 BMW from a Savannah hotel after allegedly convincing valet workers that he was a professional basketball player.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Aug. 14 at the Hyatt Regency Savannah.

Investigators said the suspect was seen retrieving belongings from a white Audi before presenting a valet ticket for a gray 2026 BMW X5.

He allegedly told employees that he was a professional basketball player with several vehicles at the hotel.

The valets then gave him the BMW, which belonged to a dealership and had been provided to a guest as a loaner.

The vehicle was later tracked to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, prompting Savannah police to alert local authorities and list it as stolen.

Investigators also discovered that the white 2025 Audi A5 associated with the suspect had been reported stolen the previous day.

It was later found unlocked in the hotel parking garage without visible exterior damage.

Police believe the suspect may also be connected to another Savannah hotel theft from Aug. 5.

A woman had left her 2019 Toyota C-HR with a Fairfield Inn valet, only to discover it missing the following morning.

Valet records reportedly showed that her retrieval code had been used shortly after midnight, more than nine hours before she attempted to retrieve the vehicle.

Savannah police have released surveillance photos while attempting to identify the suspect, who was described as a man between 20 and 30 years old.
