Nottingham Forest are on the verge of another managerial change after fresh developments emerged over the future of Vitor Pereira, with former Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner now on the verge of replacing him.

The Portuguese coach only arrived after Forest found themselves in serious relegation trouble, but quickly turned the club's fortunes around with an impressive run of results.

Pereira guided Forest clear of the bottom three before building on that momentum with a run to the Europa League semi-finals, with the Tricky Trees going on a 10-game unbeaten run in all competitions at one stage.

The former Wolves boss was also tipped to sign a new deal after all of this, but it is now believed that Pereira is about to surprisingly leave the City Ground.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Evangelos Marinakis made the decision to part company with Pereira on Tuesday evening.

Romano reports that the Forest manager was informed of the decision this morning, bringing an end to a spell that had restored optimism around the club.

Attention has already turned towards who could succeed him.

Fabrizio Romano has earned widespread respect for his accuracy on high-profile transfers and managerial appointments, thanks to a network of trusted contacts across clubs, agents and executives. When he reports that a decision has been made and key parties have been informed, his information is generally regarded as highly dependable within the football industry.

Parting with Vítor Pereira would likely involve compensation depending on his contract status, potentially a multi-million-pound payout if he is dismissed rather than resigning. Appointing Glasner would also require a competitive salary package, plus staff integration costs. However, Glasner's free agent status still makes the move financially manageable.

Glasner has built a strong reputation for disciplined, well-structured teams that compete above expectations. After developing LASK into a European-level side and winning the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt, he showed he can deliver with stretched resources at Palace as well. His organised, transition-based style and ability to improve players make him very well suited to Forest.

Glasner’s departure was already a sore one to take, and at Forest, his arrival would be seen as a major statement, potentially reigniting tensions after last summer’s dispute over European qualification, when Palace were controversially moved into the Conference League while Forest took their Europa League place.

The Austrian has long been admired by Forest, having previously been considered during the club's managerial search in 2023, and is now on his way to the club.

If officially appointed, Forest would be securing one of the most respected coaches currently available.

Glasner built an outstanding reputation during his time with LASK and Wolfsburg before taking Eintracht Frankfurt to UEFA Europa League glory in 2022, producing organised, aggressive teams capable of competing against Europe's elite.

He later enjoyed another hugely successful spell at Palace.

Under his leadership, Palace developed into one of the Premier League's most difficult opponents thanks to a style built around tactical discipline, quick transitions and intelligent pressing.

His time at Selhurst Park also delivered three pieces of major silverware, including the FA Cup, Community Shield and Conference League, etching his name as the successful manager in Palace's history.

That track record makes him a very attractive fit for Forest, especially with no compensation fee due.

Replacing a manager who achieved a lot in a relatively short period is never straightforward.

However, with Marinakis determined to make a change, it is difficult to identify many stronger candidates than Glasner.
