Manchester United's summer spending doesn’t appear to be over just yet, with Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall emerging as one of Michael Carrick's priority targets before the transfer window closes.
Now, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided a significant update on the situation.
The Red Devils have made three signings ahead of Michael Carrick’s first season as permanent manager, bringing in Karl Darlow, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, but adding a long-term solution at left-back to rival Luke Shaw now appears to be one of the club's main objectives between now and the deadline.
Hall has been linked with an Old Trafford switch in recent weeks, with United seemingly viewing the England international as one of the Premier League's standout young full-backs.
According to Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, Hall is viewed as a “top target” for the Red Devils, with the club already making “contacts” over a potential transfer.
However, he also stressed that Newcastle have no desire to sell the 21-year-old and are expected to make negotiations extremely difficult despite the interest.

That stance from Newcastle is understandable. It has been a turbulent summer that has seen the Magpies lose high-profile players including Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, while Eddie Howe departed as manager, and Bruno Guimareas could be next to depart.
However, on the flip side of things, it is easy to see why INEOS are so keen on Hall’s services, despite having Shaw and Patrick Dorgu on the books already.
Hall has developed into one of England's most complete young full-backs thanks to his athleticism, progressive carrying, quality in possession and ability to contribute in the final third.
Comfortable as both a traditional left-back and an inverted full-back, he could fit naturally into Carrick's possession-based style. He also has a surprisingly impressive goal record at Old Trafford, scoring twice in his five visits to Old Trafford, showing a knack for producing big moments at the Theatre of Dreams.
That attacking quality, combined with his defensive ability, could make him an extremely shrewd signing. Whether United can convince Newcastle to change their stance remains to be seen, however, they are taking the first steps to complete another impressive summer transfer.
