Russell Westbrook is drawing interest from EuroLeague teams as his NBA options continue to shrink, according to Evan Sidery. The nine-time All-Star reportedly wants to remain in the NBA, but a move overseas has emerged as the most realistic path currently available.

Sidery reported Tuesday that Westbrook is receiving strong interest from EuroLeague clubs, while his NBA market has remained limited. The veteran guard has reportedly received little to no interest from NBA teams as training camp approaches, creating uncertainty around whether he will begin the 2026-27 season on a roster.

A move to Europe would represent a major shift for one of the most accomplished guards in NBA history. Westbrook has spent 18 seasons in the league, playing for seven franchises over the last nine years, including the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings.

Despite his uncertain free-agent market, Westbrook remained productive during the 2025-26 season. The 37-year-old played 64 games for Sacramento, starting 58, and averaged 15.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 6.7 assists in 29.0 minutes per game. He shot 42.7% from the field and connected on 33.8% of his three-point attempts, his best mark from beyond the arc since the 2022-23 season.

Westbrook’s career résumé remains among the strongest of his generation. In 1,301 regular-season games, he has averaged 20.9 points, 8.0 assists and 6.9 rebounds while becoming the NBA’s all-time leader in triple-doubles.

His greatest individual season came in 2016-17 with Oklahoma City, when he averaged 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists to become the first player since Oscar Robertson to average a triple-double for an entire season. Westbrook later repeated the achievement in three additional seasons.

However, his role has changed significantly as he has aged. After spending much of his career as a primary offensive engine, Westbrook has transitioned into a veteran contributor who provides playmaking, rebounding and defensive energy. He finished seventh in Sixth Man of the Year voting during the 2024-25 season with Denver before returning to a starting role in Sacramento.

Several EuroLeague contenders could view Westbrook’s experience and ability to create offense as valuable. The 2025-26 EuroLeague season featured strong performances from established clubs, with Olympiacos finishing first in the regular season at 26-12 before winning the championship. Real Madrid finished third at 24-14 and reached the Final Four, while Fenerbahce also finished 24-14 and advanced to the semifinals.

Westbrook’s leadership and transition ability could appeal to teams seeking an experienced ball-handler capable of controlling games. His ability to attack the basket, create shots for teammates and impact multiple areas of the game remains valuable, even as NBA teams have become more cautious about committing roster spots to veteran guards.

Earlier in the offseason, the Miami Heat were mentioned as a possible destination if LeBron James signed elsewhere, but that opportunity did not develop. With NBA interest currently limited, Westbrook faces one of the biggest decisions of his career: continue waiting for an NBA opportunity or begin a new chapter overseas.
