The unbeaten junior welterweight prospect dropped Mills twice before a fourth-round stoppage and then asked for a world title eliminator

Emiliano Vargas (18-0, 15 KOs) took the biggest step of his young career Saturday night, stopping Bryce Mills (22-2, 9 KOs) in the fourth round after scoring two knockdowns at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The unbeaten 22-year-old then called for a world title eliminator following his 15th knockout in 18 victories. Referee Ricky Gonzalez halted the contest at the 1:17 mark of the fourth round. Vargas dropped Bryce in both the third and fourth rounds.

Mills entered the bout with only one previous defeat and was expected to provide Vargas with the toughest test of his professional career. From the opening bell, Vargas relied on his jab and movement to keep the fight at range while Mills looked to close the distance.

The pace picked up in the third round when Vargas connected with a combination that sent Mills to the canvas for the first time. Mills beat the count and continued pressing forward, but Vargas carried the momentum into the fourth.

Another combination dropped Mills early in the round. Vargas followed with a series of punches as Mills covered up along the ropes, prompting Gonzalez to stop the fight before additional punishment could be absorbed.

The victory was the most notable of Vargas’ young career and marked the first stoppage loss suffered by Mills as a professional. Vargas improved to 18-0 with his 15th knockout and continued building momentum at 140 pounds.

After the fight, Emiliano told DAZN that he wants his next bout to be a world title eliminator. He didn’t say who he’s targeting for that fight.
