The Chicago Cubs made one of the most notable trades of the MLB offseason when they acquired right-handed pitcher Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins.

Cabrera is regarded as having some of the best "stuff" in the league and with the highly regarded Cubs pitching lab, big things were expected from Cabrera.

Things have not gone well, though, due to poor performances and injuries. Cabrera returned to the rotation Sunday after missing nearly two months, but his turn in the rotation may have been a one-and-done.

Edward Cabrera had a rough outing in his return

Chicago hoped it would get a rejuvenated and motivated Cabrera ahead of his outing on Sunday, and while he may have been both of those things, the results did not show.

Cabrera lasted just 3 2/3 innings and allowed seven earned runs on six hits while walking three and striking out two. It was a disappointing outing for Cabrera, and what made matters worse were his comments after the game.

Cabrera revealed that he was dealing with another blister, the same thing that forced him to hit the injured list in June. Cabrera said that he did not realize the blister was affecting him until his last inning on the mound.

Cubs Edward Cabrera said a blister was coming on during his outing ,but he didn’t tell Craig Counsell or any of the coaches until he was removed from the game in the 4th inning. He was wearing a band- aid on his finger in the post game media conversation.

Edward Cabrera may be one-and-done in the starting rotation

MLB insider Bruce Levine spoke Monday about Cabrera and revealed that he doesn't expect Cabrera to start when his turn to pitch comes back around this weekend.

"After this blister and poor performance, I think Cabrera is not going to start again for now," Levine said on 104.3 The Score. "I imagine there's a chance that [David] Peterson will go back into the rotation."

In that scenario, Cabrera would likely swap spots with Peterson and move to a swingman role in the bullpen. There's also a possibility that the blister lands Cabrera back on the IL and he'll have more time to find his command ahead of the Cubs postseason push.
