Dana White has just about had it after negotiations between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have once again hit a brick wall.
When Fury and Joshua were booked for tune-up fights earlier in the summer, it led many to believe that perhaps it would finally be time for the two to clash. “The Gypsy King” took care of business in Pattaya, stopping Mariusz Wach via seventh-round TKO. Anthony Joshua struggled against Kristian Prenga early before delivering a thunderous knockout punch in the second stanza.
It appears cold water has once again been poured on a bout that some believe is past its expiration date. Fury posted a series of videos on his social media page praising White and Zuffa Boxing for trying to make the fight happen, but he claims Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn has presented roadblocks. Fury later said that Joshua doesn’t want the fight and he’s now seeking a trilogy with Oleksandr Usyk.
During a media scrum following a Contender Series event, White chimed in on the situation and implied that one side simply doesn’t want the fight (via MMAFighting).
“My update would be: Tyson, thank you for all the kind words,” White said. “I mean, guys, you don’t have to be f*cking rocket scientists to see what’s going on here. And I’ve been saying the same thing since Bournemouth. Since we had the fight in Bournemouth, I’ve been saying the same thing. If you can’t f*cking see through this, then you know — Yeah. Yeah.”
Fury’s side of the story has been heavily disputed by longtime boxing journalist Dan Rafael. Hearn and Joshua have reportedly signed on for the original terms of the bout agreement, which says the bout must take place in England. Fury’s camp reportedly wants the fight to take place inside Madison Square Garden in New York City, which goes against the agreed upon terms.
