Dana White recently responded to a reporter who opined that Alex Pereira should have been given a chance to run it back with new heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane because of the Brazilian’s “star power.

White will announce Pereira’s next fight this weekend on Nina Drama’s KICK stream. Although “Poatan” wanted a rematch with Gane due to the back-of-the-headshots controversy that Pereira believes contributed to his TKO loss, he will most likely be facing Sergei Pavlovich next, potentially later this year.

Meanwhile, Gane will defend his strap at UFC 334 against undefeated contender Josh Hokit.

During a recent interview with RMC Sport Combat, when White was told by a reporter that Pereira should have gotten the Gane rematch because of his star power, White did not agree with that view and made it clear that the UFC no longer makes fights based solely on star power and explained why Josh Hokit got the heavyweight title shot against “Bon Gamin.” He said:

“We make fights based on star power? We make fights based on who is the best in the world and who deserves to be there… Alex is coming off a loss right now against Ciryl Gane. This is the fight to make.”

Josh Hokit belives he is Dana White’s favorite fighter

Although Dana White is worried about Josh Hokit becoming heavyweight champion given his controversial personality and outspoken nature, Hokit believes he is the UFC head honcho’s favorite fighter. He told Ariel Helwani:

“Dana’s just, you know, he has to say that… Deep down I’m Dana’s favorite fighter, you know what I’m saying? He can’t wait for my fights… I didn’t join this sport to be liked by anybody… You call my name, you have me sign the contract, I’m gonna give you a good fight.”
