Colby Covington, Khamzat Chimaev

Colby Covington, who loves to play the heel, has ripped into former UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev’s mentality.

According to Covington’s assessment, Chimaev struggles when things don’t go his way and has difficulty dealing with adversity. Covington believes this “quitter” mindset was evident at UFC 328 when Chimaev pulled guard twice in the second round of his title bout with Sean Strickland. On The Ariel Helwani Show, “Chaos” said:

“When the fight gets tough, and he’s not the hammer anymore, and he becomes the nail, things get tough. He’s not a good adversity fighter… You saw it yourself. Second round, he’s pulling guard. What are you doing pulling guard, bro? I thought you’re supposed to be this crazy good wrestler. Why would you ever accept the mat?”

“In the wrestling world, coaches will tell you, ‘Don’t even sleep on your back at night because I don’t even want you to get comfortable being on your back.’ You don’t ever accept being on your back. You get up. Khamzat doesn’t have that type of mentality. He’s a quitter. He has had everything handed to him.”

The former UFC fighter also added that he knew “Borz” is not a “good adversity fighter” and predicted Chimaev would lose once “Tarzan” stops the takedowns and forces the Chechen-born Emirati to stand and bang with him.

Colby Covington says he will “break” Khamzat Chimaev on November 14

On November 14, Colby Covington and Khamzat Chimaev will lock horns for the cruiserweight crossover title at RAF Abu Dhabi, and “Chaos” says he knows he will break the Chechen-born Emirati. He said :

“I don’t think Ariel. I know I’m gonna break him.”

Covington is also prepared for any post-match chaos or brawls and said he is not just preparing for a freestyle wrestling match against Chimaev but also for a fight if things get out of hand/ or “chippy” on November 14. He added:

“Chaos is unpredictable… If it needs to be a fight, I’m always willing to protect myself and defend myself… If he gets chippy because he’s mad that he can’t beat me in freestyle wrestling… I’m preparing myself for a fight… If it gets out of hand because of him and he’s unprofessional, then let it be what it be. I’m just gonna stay prepared for worst-case scenario and always watch my six.”
