It's been a slow start to the summer at Celtic, but the Bhoys could finally have their first signing in their sights in the form of an impressive striker.

Martin O'Neill could do with several additions in the coming months if his side are to retain their Scottish Premiership crown once again, and it's clear to see why that must start with an attacking star.

The Bhoys have already lost Kelechi Iheanacho, who has become a free agent, and other big names could still head for the exit door. It makes welcoming the likes of Camilo Duran all the more important this summer.

There's no doubt that Celtic need a striker this summer and a deal for Duran would make a lot of sense. The Bhoys have already had one offer rejected, but the forward's £2.5m valuation should be more than within their range.

Celtic are still in negotiations, but they would be wise to simply pay Duran's £2.5m valuation. It would get their summer underway and solve their striker problem, which has lasted far too long.

The forward has proved his goalscoring prowess on the biggest stage, scoring five goals in 10 Champions League games last season. He's someone who's at the peak of his powers.

For £2.5m, Duran could quickly become a bargain if he did bring his Qarabağ form to Celtic and O'Neill would, of course, be the biggest winner in that scenario.

On paper, a deal for the 24-year-old makes perfect sense at Celtic Park, but the Bhoys have still got to match Qarabag's asking price.

Celtic make progress in Duran deal

As reported by CelticWay's Josh McCafferty, Celtic have made "progress" in their deal to sign Duran this summer. The Bhoys have already seen one offer rejected, but have continued talks and are edging closer to an agreement.

Whilst Qarabag's valuation has not dropped, McCafferty's report suggests that it's unlikely to be a problem for Celtic if push comes to shove in the coming weeks.

After playing a starring role last season, the forward would certainly be worth the small transfer fee.

Why Celtic should go all out to sign Duran

Celtic are a frustrating watch in negotiations. Fans are growing tireless as they await the completion of business and the Hoops would be wise to accelerate their deal for Duran and simply match his price tag.

In terms of quality, it's clear to see why he's found himself on the Bhoys' radar. The forward scored five goals in ten Champions League games last season and 15 goals in all competitions. If anyone can solve O'Neill's striker problem, it is Duran.

It's now up to those at Parkhead to launch another offer and get their summer business underway in style. Everything is pointing towards a bargain deal, but the ball is in Celtic's court.
