One man who knows what it’s like to be in there with Carlos Prates is none other than the aforementioned Machado Garry. The Irishman defeated him in a close fight, which ended with Prates on top and on the verge of getting a finish.
In a recent interview, though, Machado Garry expressed confidence in Carlos Prates’ ability to get through Makhachev.
Machado Garry backs Carlos Prates for title success
“It’s a dangerous fight for both men,” Machado Garry said in an interview with Eze Talks Sports. “I think where Carlos is different to me is he’s far more aggressive, but equally I don’t feel like he’s as talented when it comes to stopping the grappling. So it’s a very, very interesting fight. Can Carlos land that one punch to knock him out, or can Islam take him down and finish him? It’s tough. Right now I feel like my heart is telling me that I think Carlos can get it done then we run it back again.”

Ian knows Prates better than most and given his unbelievable power and precision, it makes sense that he would stand a good chance against someone like Makhachev. Alas, as Islam proved against his most recent challenger, you need to be picture-perfect in order to take the belt away from him.
