Canelo Alvarez’s October 31 fight against Christian Mbilli faces fresh questions after the U.S. Mission Saudi Arabia issued an October 5 security alert warning of potential drone or missile attacks.

The fight remains scheduled for Riyadh, but that warning gives the fighters, their teams and traveling fans something more serious to consider than the usual fight-week arrangements. Keeping the date means preparing to travel while the security situation remains uncertain.

Boxing commentator @BarbosaBox raised the possibility of a change, posting: “Canelo-Mbilli November 21st in Vegas?” His post quoted the embassy’s security alert, which urged U.S. citizens to remain vigilant and follow Saudi Civil Defense guidance.

Canelo-Mbilli November 21st in Vegas?

That is a suggestion rather than an announced relocation. The WBC’s latest viewing information still lists October 31 in Riyadh, and there is no confirmed November 21 replacement date.

Still, announcing a fight date cannot remove the risk described in the alert. Organizers can continue promoting the event, but the people expected to board planes need confidence that getting there, staying there, and leaving will be safe.

The longer a decision takes, the harder a change becomes. Fans could have flights and hotels booked, while both camps are preparing to have their fighters ready for the end of October. Moving to November 21 would add three weeks, requiring adjustments to training and travel arrangements.

For Canelo, another delay would also stretch an already lengthy absence from the ring. He and Mbilli last fought in September 2025, making this a return after more than a year for both men.

Las Vegas would offer a familiar setting for Canelo, but arranging a replacement event requires more than picking a city and a Saturday.

The October 31 date is still official. The concern now is whether the security situation allows everyone involved to treat it as dependable. Barbosa’s question is reasonable, even if the Vegas move remains unconfirmed.
