Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayNorth Carolina forward Caleb Wilson arrived at the NBA Draft Combine this week with both hands fully healthy and a renewed appreciation for the game after a season derailed by two separate fractures.
Wilson broke a bone in his left hand on February 10 when he fell attempting to block a shot, then fractured his right thumb on March 5 after striking the rim during practice. The injuries limited him to just 24 games for the Tar Heels.
"I never really felt like my hand injury was a setback," Wilson told reporters Wednesday. "Of course, I was heartbroken when it happened. But my hand's perfectly fine now, and I feel like it offered me a different perspective on basketball in general. Now I'm way more grateful to play. Every day I wake up and I get the opportunity to play and just be able to shoot and dribble and stuff like that."
Wilson said he has interviewed with the Utah Jazz, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets, with a Washington Wizards session scheduled for Thursday and a likely meeting with the Memphis Grizzlies upcoming.
He described leadership and winning culture as his primary contributions at the next level, beyond his scoring and rebounding ability.
"Being able to kind of impact winning and impact the culture of the team is going to be something I really bring from day one," Wilson said. "I would be happy to go to any team that believes in me."
