The Memphis Grizzlies are now expected to explore a trade involving Ja Morant within the next month, according to reporting from Evan Sidery on Friday, June 5. The update comes amid growing belief that the franchise is moving toward a full roster reset rather than a short-term retool.

Sidery reported that the relationship between Morant and the Grizzlies has not been repaired, adding that Memphis is positioned to “sell off Morant at his lowest possible value” during the offseason. The report also compared the situation to other recent mid-cycle star moves across the league.

The shift follows a sequence of major roster decisions by the organization. The Grizzlies already moved key core pieces, including Desmond Bane in a 2025 trade to Orlando and Jaren Jackson Jr. in a February 2026 deal to Utah, leaving Morant as the final remaining centerpiece from the earlier competitive core.

Morant’s production during the 2025-26 season still reflected high-level playmaking despite limited availability. He averaged 19.5 points and 8.1 assists across 20 games, while shooting 41.0% from the field and 23.5% from three-point range. His free-throw efficiency remained strong at 89.7%, based on season statistical data.

Memphis finished the season 25-57, placing the team near the bottom of the Western Conference standings and out of postseason contention. The record aligned with a broader trend of regression following multiple high-impact roster moves across two seasons.

The front office is now expected to prioritize a rebuild centered on younger assets and draft capital. Players such as Zach Edey, Cedric Coward, and Jaylen Wells are viewed internally as part of the next structural phase of the roster.
