When David Moyes replaced a drained and defeated Sean Dyche midway through the 2024/25 campaign, he sparked a momentum shift at Goodison Park, ending Everton's fears of a relegation battle.

It felt like the start of something special, a rush toward higher ground in the Premier League, and in fairness, Moyes did succeed in keeping the Toffees away from bottom-of-the-table danger, finishing comfortably in the middle of the park.

There have been several fundamental flaws in the tactical design plan, but Moyes and technical director Angus Kinnear plan to iron out those creases, with attacking upgrades still anticipated.

Everton need a new centre-forward, and it could spell the end for Beto at the Hill Dickinson.

Why Beto needs to leave Everton

In fairness, Beto enjoyed a strong return in the Premier League last season, scoring nine goals across 37 appearances, of which only 17 were starts.

The 28-year-old is strong and physical at his best, rough-edged and wasteful at other times. With Thierno Barry so inconsistent in the final third, whether he should be kept as the focal frontman next year is a big question that Moyes needs to answer; does he have what it takes to lead Everton up into Europe?

The Bissau-Guinean striker was heavily linked with an exit back in January, and while it didn't come to pass, there's no question that a departure could be engineered.

Bursts of prolific form would likely continue, should he remain at Everton over the next year or two, but Everton need a more robust and refined attacking talisman, should they hope to bridge the gap on those currently awaiting European football next season.

With that in mind, Moyes looks to have set his sights on a big upgrade, someone who has been likened to the best of the best at times.

Everton readying offer to sign Beto upgrade

Everton went seven games without a win at the end of the 2025/26 season, and while goals were not an issue for Moyes' side during that period, a new talisman could go a long way toward firing this squad up the ladder.

Well, according to Tutto Juve in Italy, Everton are considering an official offer to sign Dusan Vlahovic this summer, whose contract with Juventus expired at the end of last season.

The 26-year-old is also considering a return to Juventus, but there is a considerable gap in salary expectations between the respective parties, which could open the door for Everton to entice him with a move to the Premier League.

Former Italy international Luca Toni has said in the past that Vlahovic is “one of the best strikers in the world”, and though injuries and wider problems at Juventus have stunted him in recent years, there is little question that he knows how to score a good goal, having bagged seven in Serie A last year despite only starting 11 matches.

If Everton manage to keep a grip on Barry, who is of interest to RB Leipzig, then Vlahovic would be the perfect counterpoint up top, physical and robust and innately clinical in front of goal.

Given that Barry is considered the ideal understudy for Beto at Everton, it would make sense to sign a contrasting profile and ship Beto out, thus allowing a more dynamic attacking pairing to flourish.

Vlahovic has walked as a superstar in the past in Italy. He joined Juventus from Fiorentina for £66.5m in January 2022, and all told, he has posted 140 goals and 26 assists across 325 senior club appearances.

His fitness problems may cause Everton officials to hesitate in making their move, but Vlahovic would be the ideal Beto upgrade to take Moyes' vision to the next level, and he could share his attacking workload with Barry, perhaps teaching him a thing or two about straight shooting.
