Bronny James is expected to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers despite LeBron James leaving the franchise in free agency, according to The Athletic.

Speculation has suggested Bronny could eventually follow his father to his next team, but league sources told The Athletic that is not expected to happen.

The Lakers guaranteed Bronny’s $2.3 million salary before free agency, signaling their commitment to the young guard.

Bronny has reportedly earned the respect of teammates through his work ethic and development.

Last season, he appeared in 42 NBA games after spending much of the year in the G League, averaging 2.9 points and 1.2 assists while shooting 38.6 percent from three-point range.

“It’s the best feeling in the world,” Bronny said of playing in the playoffs.

“I mean, in college, I didn’t get to play in March, so that’s something that’s gonna irk me for the rest of my life. And I got to do it in the playoffs, and that’s just the best feeling.”

If he stays in Los Angeles, Bronny will compete for backcourt minutes next season as LeBron decides between the Cavaliers, Heat, 76ers, Warriors, and Timberwolves.
