Sacramento Kings forward Ben Simmons is believed to have suffered a torn Achilles tendon at practice on Sunday. Simmons had made the Kings roster after standing out throughout training camp and the preseason. Sacramento had reportedly planned for him to be a starter when the regular season opened later this week.

Simmons signed a non-guaranteed veteran minimum contract with Sacramento this offseason. His deal is set to become guaranteed for $1 million on opening night.

The Kings made their roster cutdowns by waiving Elfrid Payton, Tristen Newton and Viktor Lakhin on Saturday. Sacramento is carrying an open standard roster spot and is $3.1 million under the luxury tax. Whether or not the Kings will now look to fill that spot, or if they will waive Simmons, is unknown.
