Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has suffered a right ankle sprain, but head coach Steve Kerr does not believe the injury is serious.

The Warriors confirmed the diagnosis on Sunday, October 18, according to Marc Stein. Kerr told local reporters after Golden State’s open practice that he had spoken with Curry and was not overly concerned about the injury.

Dalton Johnson shared video of the incident, showing Curry limping off the court during the practice before returning to the locker room.

The injury comes as the Warriors prepare for the 2026-27 NBA season following a summer in which they retained several key players while making changes to their roster. Curry’s availability will be a major factor in their efforts to improve after finishing 37-45 last season.

The 38-year-old guard is coming off a campaign in which he averaged 26.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 43 games. He shot 46.8% from the field and 39.3% from three-point range while averaging 30.9 minutes per game.

Curry’s 43 appearances marked his lowest total since the 2019-20 season, when he played just five games. He has dealt with several injury-disrupted campaigns throughout his career, making his health an important consideration for Golden State.

Despite the missed time last season, Curry continued to produce at an elite scoring level. His 26.6 points per game ranked among the strongest averages of his career, while he remained one of the NBA’s most dangerous three-point shooters.

The Warriors re-signed Curry to a two-year extension on September 25, keeping their franchise cornerstone under contract as they seek to return to contention. They also retained Draymond Green, Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford, while Brandin Podziemski agreed to a five-year rookie extension.

Golden State finished the 2025-26 season with a 37-45 record and faces pressure to improve after missing the playoffs. The team also pursued major free-agent targets during the offseason but ultimately kept much of its existing core.
