Angus Young continues his record-setting pace along the Eastern Divide Trail! We caught up to him halfway through Segment 6 to see how things were going. Find an update here…

On July 25, 2025, Angus Young set off from Cape Spear on our Eastern Divide Trail, chasing the fastest known time (FKT) set by Logan Kasper at just over 41 days for the 6,000 mile route. Angus is a MASON-supported rider and is well-known for high placements in some tough bikepacking events like the GBDURO, and several FKTs, including the European Divide Trail with a time of 32 days and 8 hours. Angus has had his fair share of setbacks, including a bridge closure in Newfoundland, a dog bite in Nova Scotia, his Lauf fork delaminating in West Virginia, and his SRAM AXS derailleur acting up. He’s also had to navigate some mandatory and technical detours in Virginia and North Carolina due to residual damage from Hurricane Helene.

We caught up to him late on day 23, just after he had broken his Shimano pedals, requiring him to buy some new ones before tackling the rest of Segment 6. He also had to replace his Lauf fork with a Fox 34 Rhythm that he bought from a customer in a bike shop and replace his rear derailleur in Asheville. His front dynamo hub had also developed a little bit of play, and he’s replaced his tires as well.

Despite his setbacks, Angus was in high spirits and seemed to be enjoying most of the riding. He stated that the riding in Pisgah had been particularly great, and remarked that he really enjoys the more technical riding and demanding climbing. As of today, that seems to have served him well, as he has blown through the technically demanding Trans-North Georgia section of the Eastern Divide Trail in about three days! Angus is riding a MASON Macro with a suspension fork and drop bars. He is currently about 80 miles ahead of Logan Kasper’s pace from his record-setting ride in 2024.
