Alonzo Menifield proved the oddsmakers wrong earlier tonight at UFC 331. Despite fighting with a broken finger, the 38-year-old handed Iwo Baraniewski the first loss of his career after a 15-minute slugfest.

In the first round, Alonzo Menifield was game to make the fight chaotic right away. However, Iwo Baraniewski dominated by repeatedly stunning Menifield with his right hook and taking “Atomic” down. The undefeated Polish fighter, however, failed to secure a dominant position, and Menifield survived despite giving up his back. The 38-year-old regained his composure during the last-moment grappling exchange in R1.

In the third round, Menifield, despite fighting with a broken thumb, once again started strong by stunning Baraniewski. However, both fighters appeared fatigued and spent much of the round battling in the clinch. The referee eventually separated them, and when they returned to the center, “Atomic” continued applying offensive pressure and landed the more damaging strikes till the final bell.

Official decision: Alonzo Menifield defeated Iwo Baraniewski by split decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC 331.
