Following his cargo bike exploits around Europe and Central Asia, Allan Shaw is back with a fresh build and a bold new idea. In July, he’ll set off on our Peru Great Divide bikepacking route across the Andes Mountains on a compact but highly capable Omnium Titanium Mini. It’s the latest step in a decade-long evolution of traveling by bike in search of immersive cultural experiences and rugged terrain that’s more recently expanded into the world of competitive ultra-distance cycling.
Having stumbled upon our 1,600-kilometer Peru Great Divide route a few years ago, Allan says riding it has been in the back of his mind ever since. After attending the Eurobike show in Germany last year and trying an Omnium Ti Mini on the test track, something clicked, and the two ideas began to merge. “Peru would be incredible, and this bike would be perfect for it,” he thought.
Though a mini cargo bike is hardly the ideal choice for the route, Allan has shown that a little imagination and determination can go a surprisingly long way, as evidenced by his impressive finishes at the Silk Road Mountain Race in Kyrgyzstan and Traka XL in Spain aboard his full-size Omnium Cargo. Find a full build breakdown of his latest rig below.
